As of July 2008, a Professor Emeritus of leadership at Boston College, after 30 years on its faculty (as well as an author, and an occasional consultant, executive coach, or board member for many other for-profit, not-for-profit, and government organizations.

2010 Activities

  • Serving as a partner of and Director of Research for Harthill Consulting Ltd UK, and in alliance with Context Management consulting Inc.

  • Honored as JMI Scholar at the Western Academy of Management meeting in Hawaii, March 24-27, 2010.

  • Co-leading with Mary Stacey The Alchemy of Leadership workshop at the Remarkable Leadership Series in Toronto April 29-30, 2010.

  • Leading Action Inquiry: Transforming Leadership in the Midst of Change with Mary Stacey and Thomas Arthur at the Shambhala Summer Institute in Halifax, Nova Scotia June 6-11, 2010.

  • Offering the paper “Listening into the Dark: An essay testing the validity and efficacy of developmental action inquiry for describing and encouraging the transformation of self, society, and scientific inquiry” for the Symposium on Research Across Boundaries, Luxembourg, June 2010.

  • Co-leading T-group at the Organization Behavior Teaching Conference, Santa Fe, New Mexico, June 2010.

  • Convening by-invitation three-day Alchemists’ Workparties. The next ones will be held near Ashland, Oregon, March 30-Apr 2, 2010, near Harthill UK, July 6-9, 2010, and near Boston, October 26-29, 2010.

  • Serving the board for Trillium Asset Management, the original and largest financial company dedicated entirely to socially responsible investing.

2009 Activities

  • serving as a partner of and Director of Research for Harthill Consulting Ltd UK, including the forthcoming Transforming Leadership and Organizations Workshop in London April 29-30 (http://www.harthill.co.uk/events-seminars-and-ldf-training-intensives.html) and the forthcoming  Transforming Leadership Training Intensive in Boston, July 7-9, 2009.  Participation authorizes executive coaches, academics, consultants, and corporate h.r. & o.d. professionals to use the Leadership Development Profile in their work.
  • leading Action Inquiry: Transforming Leadership in the Midst of Change with Mary Stacey at ALiAWest and the Shambhala Summer Institute in Victoria, British Columbia May 19-22, 2009 and in Halifax, Nova Scotia June 21-26, 2009.
  • leading The Alchemy of Leadership workshop at the Remarkable Leadership Series in Toronto October 1-2, 2009
  • convening by-invitation three-day Alchemists’ Workparties. The next ones will be held near San Francisco March 30-Apr 2, 2009, in Salcombe UK May 4-7, 2009, near Toronto October 5-8, and near Boston October 27-30, 2009.
  • serving on the executive committee of the board for Trillium Asset Management, the original and largest financial company dedicated entirely to socially responsible investing

  • offered a keynote address at the June 11-14, 2008, Organization Behavior Teaching Conference
  • made a keynote presentation at the first Integral Theory Conference at John F. Kennedy University, Pleasant Hill CA, August 7-10, 2008
  • gave an invited address on “The Questions We (Ought to) Ask” at the Academy of Management meeting in Anaheim CA, August 11-13, 2008
  • convened two by-invitation three-day Alchemists Workshops
